That cheeky easter bunny

My daughter is getting very excited about Easter and the thought of getting some easter eggs (my daughter LOVES her chocolate).  So we had some fun doing Maths with our cheeky easter bunnies.  I told her the cheeky easter bunnies only wanted to collect easter eggs that matched their magic number (each easter bunny had a number on it).

I left a pile of half easter eggs all with numbers on

numbered easter eggsFor the easter eggs I used the – easter egg addition up to 20 activity cards (Classic package on Twinkl) I laminated mine as I am planning on using them quite a bit in the next couple of weeks.

I also had a pile of easter bunnies with numbers on.  I used the Numbered 0-31 easter bunnies (FREE from Twinkl) for this.  I printed mine 2 to a page.  For this activity we only used the bunnies up to 20.

My daughter choose a cheeky bunny and then she had to create the eggs for that bunny.

When she got a bit stuck she just wrote her number line out on a piece of paper and worked out what the missing number would be.

She also had a good attempt at doing the number 20 easter bunny.  I was very impressed with how many of the sums she remembered.  And we had a go at matching all the doubling easter eggs to their bunnies.

She really liked this idea of matching the easter eggs to their bunnies so we also made an easter themed number bond poster.

easter number bonds 20We used the same easter bunny from above but the eggs we used are from here – Easter egg number bonds to 20 (FREE on Twinkl).  I printed ours – 8 eggs on a page.

I also downloaded the basket from Twinkl – basket cut-out (Classic package on Twinkl).

Kids Afrikaans Board

A few weeks ago my daughter asked me if we could make an Afrikaans board for her but I have to be honest with everything going on I just never got around to finishing it for her – until now.  So I just thought I would share a few picture of what her Afrikaans board looks like.

Afrikaans board

Everything on the board is from the Twinkl website.  I will include links below.

The lovely people at Twinkl especially made the Afrikaans banner for us and we just love it – thank you!!

The colour cards, the animal cards, the days of the week poster and the bird word mat are all part of the Afrikaans set up pack (this is truly a great pack)

Spring Tree craft and maths

I love Spring time, I love watching as the specks of colours start getting bigger and brighter.

The last couple of weeks the kids have started noticing that more flowers are coming out and then on Monday they both shouted with glee when they saw a tree with spring blossoms on.  So me being me took that as an invitation to do some Spring tree crafts.

My daughter saw some bubble painting on TV and has been dying to try it so I thought we could try to combine the bubble painting with making spring blossoms for our tree.  There are lots of great ideas about using bubble painting on Pinterest (in case you have not heard of it).

We made our mixture (we used our paint mixed with some of our bubblle mixture) and the kids had great fun blowing big bubbles and then putting their pages over the bubbles to get their spring blossoms (tip – the colour needs to be quite strong for this to work effectively).

My daughter also wanted to try and do one with her paint brush.  This was a great exercise for her as she had to try really hard to keep her circles small.

And I just love this  – my daughter made a Spring button tree (we bought our buttons from Tesco).

My daughter was really enjoying her Spring tree activities so I could not resist trying some Spring tree Maths.  I cut out some “spring blossoms” from coloured paper and wrote on a bunch of sums and numbers.  Then I gave her some trees and she had to sort the spring blossoms onto the Odd and Even trees and the sums onto the correct number tree.

For all these activities we used the lovely tree template from Twinkl (we used the A4 option – it is part of their platinum deal).

Numbers + Cone People = Fun Maths Learning

We love the cone people from Twinkl.  Recently I stumbled upon a set that we have not used before and it included numbers on the people.  Perfect for our type of Maths.  Numbered Cone people (part of the Platinum package on Twinkl)

I initially mixed them all up.  And let the kids sort them out.

cone people startMy little boy is good with his number recognition up to 10 but after that he does sometimes get a bit confused so this was good practice for him.

cone people sortingOnce he had sorted them all to 30 he went to have some breakfast so his sister and I had a go.

I asked her to see if she could remove all the odd numbers for me.

Then she sorted them into 5’s

cone people counting in 5'sShe is battling with counting in 3’s so she asked me to help her with this.  We set out all of the cones in order and then we used our fingers to jump to every 3rd cone (and in the process removing the in-between ones).  She liked this.

And lastly we did some missing numbers (her idea).  I set up the cones with a bunch of the numbers missing and she had to put the missing cones in the correct place.

And of course the great thing about these cone people is they are great to use as an obstacle course for cars.

Easter Egg card

Our easter egg card happened by accident but I just love the way it turned it and it really is very easy to do and a great way to show off some of the easter eggs that the kids seem to love to make.    We were actually cutting and sticking shapes and ended up the result below.

colourful circles

My daughter thought it looked like a lovely bright ball.  But it got me thinking I wonder what it would like look if we did the same thing but with easter eggs.  Maybe it was the fact that we had all just eaten an easter egg to eat or maybe it was because little man was making some lovely looking easter eggs.

easter egg blueAnyway we decided to give it a go.  My daughter  joined her brother and made a few more easter eggs.

easter eggsThen we folded our easter eggs in half (long ways) and started sticking them all together.

To start with glue the one half of the back of an easter egg onto your card (leaving the other half free).  You only ever apply the glue to the back of your easter eggs.

easter egg card 1Then get your 2nd easter egg and glue one half of the 2nd easter egg to the free half of your 1st easter egg.

easter egg card 2Continue doing this until you get your last easter egg.  With the last easter egg glue its free side onto your card again.

easter egg card 3This gives a lovely effect when you open your card up.

My daughter also thought it would be good to write the words Happy Easter on her card.

I really do love the end result of this card.
