Those of you who read my blog on a regular basis will know how much we love the Twinkl website and how often we use our membership. This week (6 to 10th February) Twinkl are launching their kindness week and are encouraging staff and children to carry out acts of kindness. (Yes yes I used the word staff as in school staff and yes I am a home-educator and my kids have never been to school before but Kindness is a universal concept that applies to everyone). And as part of their Kindness Week activities Twinkl are offering one of my readers a 12 month Platinum-Plus membership (the membership that gives you access to their entire site). All you need to do is comment either below this post or on the link for this post on our facebook page with an idea of how you can show a bit of extra kindness this week – even the smallest act of kindness – just greeting someone in the street, helping someone with a difficult task, maybe baking your some biscuits for someone or if you use public transport helping a mom carry her pram up some stairs (believe me I was always so thankful when someone helped me with this).
If you have never heard about the Twinkl website – It is massive – you can download Maths / English / Science / History / role-playing packs / colouring / book resources and lots more. It has been my number one resource for home-educating for the past 4 years. It can be used by teachers, home-educators, parents, anyone who wants high quality educational resources (and it does not matter if you are UK-based or not).
For those of you who have not seen any of their resources here are 5 examples of their resources.

We have used their pages in a number of fun learning aids – like making this compound word folder

And my daughter really does love their craft pages – I have lost count on how many times she has used these 3-D butterflies
Time to get baking (the kids and I are making biscuits for some elderly neighbours).

I am just about to take my mum’s dog for a walk for the 4th time because she is too sick to go out. Would that count as an act of kindness, or must I bake cookies for a stranger? Happy to, if it would help 🙂

My tuk tuk driver was looking for a new wallet to replace his old one and surprised him, with a spanking new one so he can save his money for more important things.

Our most recent act of kindness was my kids spontaneously making a get well card for a neighbour, who had an ambulance call out. We’ve heard she’s poorly but will recover. She’s in our thoughts. x

Hi, we love twinkl, and even more so now that I have just started home educating my 2 boys last week after pulling them from their school.
Our random act of kindness was paying for the parking yesterday at a local forestry site for a wheelchair bound gentleman who was going to go cycling in the woods on his specially adapted bike. He didn’t have the correct change and no shops nearby to get any. We would love to win a twinkl membership.

We’ve just started our home education journey ourselves. I try and teach my boys about being kind to people all the time. My eldest gives away his toys to other children on a regular basis, any spare bit od change we have go to the homeless. Most of all I make sure they are polite to people. Good mornings/afternoons and please/thank yous go a long way!

I think it’s so important for children to understand that we do not give to receive. I teach my little man to appreciate that there is great reward in the act of giving itself. I’m so pleased that he is growing into a kind and generous, sharing, caring little soul! We had his cousins come to stay and they seemed really shocked when he began distributing his sweets amongst them, and missed himself out, saying it didn’t matter because he knew they loved jelly babies, and he had already had some! It sadened me that this was such an alien concept to them. However, later that day, I noticed a shift in attitude, so he must have rubbed off some kindeness!

Always looking for opportunities to show my son how kindness can make the world of difference to someone’s day or even life. Just today, we drove past a homeless man sat by the ring road near some traffic lights, he was obviously trying to keep warm by the cars/traffic as well as with his thin blanket. My son was looking at him and asking me questions, he said “mamma, that man must be freezing sitting there and it’s snowing too”. We were actually on our way out for a late lunch so I asked my son if there was something we could do to help him. He wanted to get him some clothes and a warm drink, my son then pulled out his ikea blanket from the back seat and said “can we give him this? it’s a toasty blankey!” We also popped into the nearby bakery and got him a hot drink, some food and water for later”. We gave the man the stuff, he thanked us and whilst he didn’t say much else I could see that his face and his eyes said it all. My son was not phased at all (he’s normally very shy and reserved) and was just happy to see him enjoying the brew lol.
Every act of kindness grows the spirit and strengthens the soul. x

Oooh I love Twinkl, it’s a godsend. It just makes everything so much easier and the resources are so attractive. My little boy is the epitome of kindness sharing his toys with other children, sharing sweets with waitresses or check out staff who so much as say hello to him. He really cafes about other people and is always asking what he can do to help others when he sees the homeless at nit in town

I’m going to buy my best friend a milk powder dispenser for formula milk. She couldn’t breastfeed due to her little one having severe lip tie. Every time I see her she is lugging around a whole tub of formula and a changing bag and a baby!

My favourite way to show kindness is with hugs. Hugs can just make a day so much happier and give emotional healing.
